Capstar For Flea Control Review

We had a drought here in Texas last summer. It was a very bad drought and it dropped the level of Lake Conroe so low that many of the ‘lake front homes’ had no lake front. The boats couldn’t get to the docks because it was beach under them. The only good thing about the drought is that it meant flea season would not get to bad.

Now it is Spring, and we have had enough rain that Lake Conroe is almost back at normal levels. Unfortunately the fleas are already really bad here. My poor Maggie Mae and Hunter were scratching constantly. Maggie sleeps on the floor on my side of the bed, and for a couple of nights, she would wake me up with her non-stop scratching. When they get like this, something has to be done.

Fortunately I was asked to review Capstar from This tiny little pill is amazing. It’s very tiny so it’s very easy to hide in a soft treat or a block of cheese. I stuck it in a little one inch square of Velveeta and Maggie swallowed it so fast I don’t think she realized there was even a pill in it! She probably didn’t taste the cheese either!

Within 30 – 45 minutes she was resting peacefully on the floor. No more scratching, no more whimpering! Peace!

Capstar is nitenpyram. It can be used to treat flea infestations on dogs, puppies, cats and kittens, older than 4 weeks and weighing more than 2 lbs. It kills most adult fleas within 6 hrs which is absolutely amazing to me! I didn’t believe that until I saw it happen myself on Maggie! Capstar can even be combined with Program for an even more effective flea program, and – it’s safe for pregnant and nursing cats and dogs.

You have to remember that in order to really get rid of fleas you must treat the house, the yard and the animals. There is just no other way to completely get rid of them. They can usually be controlled for about 3 months if you use a good regimen. Capstar is a good beginning to get them off your pet! Visit for your Discount Pet Medications to give your pet the best!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Mom Blog Society. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

  1. Thanks so much for the info. With 4 dogs, 3 cats and 4 kittens, we are constantly trying to eradicate fleas. Will definitely have to try this.

  2. I have used this in the past and people need to know that it does not kill larve so you need to put your pets on flea and tick meds.
It is very good to kill live ones and you can use every 24 hours if you have a huge problem.

  3. Yes Sherri, you are correct. Capstar only kills live adult fleas. That is why I said you should treat your house, yard and animals, and why I said it can and should be used in conjunction with Program which is a medication you must have a vet prescription to purchase. Thank you for mentioning it though. I should have made it a little clearer!!

  4. Thanks for this review! I’ll be getting a pup in the next couple of months so I’ll have to keep this in mind!
