Little Candy Marshmallow Chicks

Easter is so much fun for me. I get to see all the grandkids and feed them lots of candy and then send them home with their parents! Ok, that’s kind of an exaggeration. We always have a huge Easter dinner; ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots and deviled eggs, before I let them eat any candy. Even then, they have to check with their parents before they can eat any of the candy I include in their baskets. I try really hard to put lots of other things, besides just candy, in those baskets too.

Every year I try to make cookies or some special treat for the grandkids. They look forward to it every year. This year I made Little Candy Marshmallow Chicks.

I would have used the egg shaped marshmallows but I could not find them anywhere, so I used the jumbo marshmallows the stores carry year round.
Want to know how to make them? It’s super easy! Here’s what you will need…
  • Egg shaped or Jumbo marshmallows
  • White Chocolate Bark
  • Yellow food color
  • Little tubes of Decorator Frosting, and/or candy decorations for cupcakes.
  • A Double Boiler or microwave and bowl
  • Cookie Sheet and wax paper or plastic wrap

First, I melted white chocolate bark in a double boiler. You should be able to find it in the baking aisle of any grocery store. Once the chocolate was melted, I added enough yellow food color to make it a pastel yellow, like the real baby chicks.
Using a small pickle fork I dipped the marshmallows into the chocolate to cover them. Then I sat them on wax paper, on the cookie sheet, to harden. Then I decorated them with the tubes of decorator icing. You can use little decorator candies for the eyes, but if you do you have to put them on while the chocolate is still soft, so they will stay.
For the beaks I used a cupcake decoration that I got at Halloween. They are little bone shaped candies. I broke them in half and used each half for a beak on a chick.
You can see the beak on this close up of a chick. You can also see I used the gel decorator icing for the feet.
While the grandkids loved these little guys, I think Hubby liked them even more! I hope you had a wonderful Easter!
