The Lokai Bracelet – Find Your Balance

“The Mountains Are High, The Valleys are Low…

… and you’re confused, on which way to go.” The song title is “Free Ride”, by Dan Hartman (Edgar Winter Group). It’s an old song, but I bet some of you know it. (If not, ask your parents, they’ll know it for sure! hehehe!) The  lyrics to this song go on to talk about finding the answers by looking within yourself. If you were raised in the church like I was, when you look ‘within’ for the answers, you find God holding them. Life is full of ups, and downs. We sometimes need reminders that they balance out.

When I received the unassuming little Lokai Bracelet, I thought of my 15 yr. old son. Most of you know that my two boys (the last of my 6 kiddos still here at home), are step-children. If you know me, you know I absolutely abhor that “step” part. I’ve raised the boys since they were 5 and 2. They are mine as surely as if I had given birth to them. Well, the older of the two, my Daredevil, has some self-esteem issues. He was 5 when his birth-mother made the choice to live a different lifestyle. It caused him a lot of problems, but with perseverance, he’s come into his own. He still struggles with emotions, so when I found this bracelet, I knew it would be perfect for him.

Steven Izen was a freshman at Cornell University. He was on top of the world, at a good place in life – young with his whole life ahead of him – when he got the news that his beloved grandfather had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He created the Lokai Bracelet to remind the wearer, that there is a balance to life. It’s a wonderful way to remind ourselves that there will always be highs and lows in life. You can’t truly appreciate the highs, without the lows.

The white bead of the Lokai bracelet holds water from Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. The black bead holds mud from the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. The other beads are clear, because everyone has their own life story of balance. This bracelet serves as a reminder that no matter how low a point your life may be at, there is a balance in life, and you will find a high again. This is why I thought it would be perfect for my Daredevil. He was so happy when I gave it to him, and explained it’s meaning, that I got the biggest hug ever.
