Hosted by myself, Trista from Anderson’s Angels and Courtney from Joy of Momma Joyner, Good News Thursday is all about sharing the GOOD things that happen in our lives. We hear so much bad news on the television, radio and in the papers every day, don’t you think it’s time we heard some GOOD news? So do we! Come join us in our endeavor to share the good news in every day life. After you read my good news for today, link up at the bottom of the post, and share your good news too!

Finished Floors!

Ok, it may not be good news for anyone else, unless you are part of my family, or a close friend who comes to visit. I however think that my floors being finished, is WONDERFUL news! Now, I can get my kitchen (where all the excess furniture had been moved to) back into some resemblance of order.

New floor looking from kitchen to front door

Yes! Some furniture needs to be positioned, but the floor is finished!

I know it’s hard to actually see the new floor, since there is a beautiful Mohawk rug covering it, but I can see a huge difference. The carpet that was under that rug before was atrocious. It had several holes in it (one from a hot iron falling on it, and one from, well, we’ll just attribute it to an ex-husband!) and after fifteen years it had certainly seen better days. I will admit I was not fond of that carpet from the day I bought the house. The color was a deep burgundy maroon that we affectionately refered to as “whore-house maroon”. I don’t have to worry about it any more! To me, the light oak makes the room seem bigger, and fresher!

Beautiful floor by my chair

Yes, the binding on my floor is starting to unravel a little. I need to find a needle and repair it. This rug was a blessing when I won it though! It kept me from having to see the holes in the carpet…!

So, my life feels a little more blessed, and a lot less cluttered. The love seat in the top picture is an auction purchase ($30!!) and that shelf tower in the middle of the picture will go in the corner behind Hubby’s recliner. We are moving the antique buffet from the kitchen into the living room to use as a TV stand. Hubby inherited another antique buffet from his parents, and it will take the old buffet’s place in the kitchen under my pot rack.

What’s the Good News in your little corner of the world??

  1. Yay! I bet you are thrilled!! Anytime something is “done” is a great feeling! Love the rug!

  2. A friend of mine is doing her floors right now, too, and she can’t WAIT to get them finished! If mama ain’t happy with her floors… ain’t nobody happy! haha! 🙂 I love the floors you’ve chosen!

  3. Congrats on your new floor!

  4. That looks really nice. It really refreshed the space! Thanks for sharing.

  5. Oh I love the pattern of that rug. It would be perfect in my living room.

  6. I know how great I’ll feel when our floors are done. I know these types of floors make such a difference they look great.

    • Grace, the flooring we put in the kitchen could have been a little better quality. It was on sale and we didn’t have a ton of money. It’s starting to scratch where the chairs are pulled in and out from the table. It’s still better than the nasty linoleum we had in here though! The living room floor is a better quality flooring, and with the rug on it, I don’t expect it to be scratched at all!

  7. I would love to replace our carpets – your floors look great!

  8. Oh I love them, they’re gorgeous and the rug is as well! I remember the joy we had ripping out carpet and replacing it with hardwood, it is so easy to take care of! Happy Day!

  9. We replaced the carpeting in our den with bamboo flooring last year – it was an amazing transformation! I hope you’re as happy with your new floors as we are with ours!

  10. I can imagine how thrilled you are that your floors are finished! They look great.

  12. Rebecca Orr says:

I love new flooring. It always makes a huge impact! We need to do our kitchen and bathroom. Very outdated, cracked, and pulling up in areas.

  13. Love the floor you chose. I’ll take wood over carpeting any day of the week Better for my allergies and just looks so much nicer! Congrats!

    • Thanks Andrew! I don’t think I’ll ever go back to carpeting after seeing the silt that had made its way through the carpet and padding!

  14. Isn’t it an amazing feeling when you finally get a project done in your home and the results are amazing? Everything seems a little more awesome 🙂

  15. yeah! The floors look great.

  1. […] the Pot Rack for our kitchen, since I have no room for a hanging one. In February we carried the laminate flooring through the living room, hall, and boys rooms. In April we hung wallpaper in the living room. It’s still gorgeous, […]
