9-11 Never Forget

“Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?”

These lyrics are from the song Alan Jackson wrote immediately after the attacks on the United States on that awful day fourteen years ago. I was sitting at the front desk of Parrot Ice Drink Products. Someone came up from the back and said I should turn on the television in the meeting room and watch the news. They said there was talk that terrorists had attacked us in New York. The words that immediately came out of my mouth were, “That’s impossible! It must just be an accident or something.”

It was not an accident.

The Twin Towers both came down that day. The Pentagon was attacked, and some very brave people lost their lives to bring a plane down in a field, before it hit our White House. Many brave people lost their lives that day. So many first responders who put their lives on the line everyday and thought they were just out to do their jobs. They had no idea when they answered those alarms that it would not be a normal work day. They didn’t know we had been attacked by terrorists. They just answered their calling. They did their jobs. So many lost their lives, and so many saved lives that day as well.

Will you ever forget?

Fear and disbelief filled our workplace that day, as I am sure it filled everyone’s hearts, everywhere. No one ever thought the U.S. would ever be attacked. This attack taught us to never say never. It taught us that anything can happen and we need to stop being so complacent. This kind of thing can happen again. Winston Churchill once said “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

We need to honor those who gave their lives on that day and we need to always remember.

Have you forgotten? Where were you on 9/11/2001?
