Crochet Catch-Up for Friday On The Farm!

Let’s Catch Up A Little!

I have been doing so many reviews. I’m really kind of burnt out on them. I am certain all of you are pretty tired of them as well. I’m thinking it’s time to get back to a little “Farm and Family” and away from those reviews, what do you think?

First, let’s talk crochet!

The newest project on the hook is the “Fall Garden” CAL (Crochet-A-Long) from Happily Hooked magazine and Rohn Strong. You can join us by clicking on that link to join the Facebook group.

This is the second part of the Crochet A Long

For those who don’t know, a CAL means they release little parts of the pattern at a time (weekly in this case). You spend the week working up that piece, and then next week you get another piece. Actually the part shown in the picture is the bit for the second week. They told us how many colors and how much of each we would need first, so I bought Red Heart Super Saver yarn. I was supposed to work up ten leaves for the first week. I had two leaves done in the same color as this flower when the second part hit. When I saw it was a flower I decided to frog (pull out) the leaves and use that color to crochet the flower. I have a green I’ll use for the leaves, and because they work up pretty quick, I’ll have them done in plenty of time. These CAL’s are fun, because you have no idea what it will look like at the end (and sometimes, no idea what it will be!). This time we know it will be an afghan. That’s a good thing, because I can give it as a gift at Christmas!

I’m also working on this afghan from Love The Country for one of my boys for Christmas.

It’s really hard to tell from the picture, but it’s really very pretty. I’m using a soft yarn (Red Heart’s with Love yarn in Pewter) so it isn’t scratchy. It will have a border on it as well, so it will be plenty big enough. The stitches are pretty close, so it’s heavy, and I know it will be warm because it’s hot on my lap while I’m crocheting it!

I’m also starting on Christmas ornaments for the grandkids soon. You will love them, they are so cute! I’ll probably show you those next week, since I should have a few done by then. I also have to fulfill a request for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (Leonardo!) for one of the grandsons, so, yes, my hands are busy!

What WIP’s (works-in-progress), projects, crafts have you been working on?

  1. I LOVE the Afghan! I haven’t made one in about 10 years. I need to find time to sit and Crochet again! I may need to get that pattern from you.

  2. Wendy Pence says:

I’m working on several things right now. I’m making a Woodsy Argyle afghan for my daughter for Christmas. It’s worked in Tunisian simple stitch and in panels which are then connected and have an overlayed crochet diamond pattern. I’m also doing The Crochet Crowd’s Mystery Amigurumi CAL (the last clue’s been released–it’s a kangaroo) for my niece’s birthday — I’m making two of them for her. I’m doing the Fall Garden CAL from Happily Hooked, too. Small world! My crochet hooks and knitting needles are always busy! Next up are some cute holiday stockings I saw featured in the Red Heart 12 days of Christmas email I received today. :0)

    • Wendy,
The Woodsy Argyle afghan sounds beautiful! I saw those stockings in the Red Heart 12 Days of Christmas email as well! I just have enough on the hooks right now. I want to finish one or two before I start another project. Actually, I need to think about Christmas gifts first!
