Loads of Kids Christmas Books
I love to give books to my grandchildren for Christmas, because I want them to love to read just as much as I do. I also believe it is a great way to introduce them to basic Christian values. Zondervan publishes so many wonderful children’s books, and I’d like to share a few of my favorites with you. These are books my grandchildren will be receiving from me this year.
Christmas Love Letters from God
This is a very wonderful book written by Glenys Nellist and illustrated by Rachel Clowes. I’ve reviewed this book already this year, so here is the link where you can go read all about this book in depth. You can purchase the book from Zondervan.
A Night of Great Joy!
This book is written and illustrated by Mary Engelbreit as only she can do it. The book is the story of the birth of Jesus, but the pictures are of children putting on the play. The illustrations are just like a child’s play with the amazing facial features that children always bring to this type of theatric endeavor. Available from Zondervan.
A Royal Christmas to Remember
This is a cute story about how five princesses find out the true meaning of Christmas. This story helps teach children the wonderful lesson of how it’s better to give than receive. Written by Jeanna Young & Jacqueline Johnson and illustrated by Omar Aranda. Available from Zondervan.
The Berenstain Bears
There are two Berenstain Bears books; the Christmas Fun Sticker & Activity Book, and The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel. These were written and illustrated by Mike & Jan Berenstain. Almost anyone with children knows (or should!) about the Berenstain Bears. Both of these books are great stocking stuffers as they are thin paperback books. The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel is a wonderful story about angels and the roles they played in the story of the birth of Christ. The Christmas Fun Sticker & Activity Book will give kids something to do while Mom makes breakfast! Who doesn’t like a good sticker book?
Ready, Set, Find Christmas and Goodnight, Manger
These two books are for younger children and toddlers. They are board books that will keep younger children busy for a while. Ready, Set, Find Christmas is your normal ‘seek & find’ book, but it tells the story of Jesus’ birth. The pictures are simple, with the ‘find’ objects easy for a young toddler to find. My youngest grandson absolutely loves this book.
The last book, Goodnight, Manger is written by Laura Sassi, and illustrated by Jane Chapman. This is a rhyming book about the baby Jesus’ first night in the manger. It’s written from Mary’s point of view, while trying to get Jesus to sleep in a noisy manger. It’s a great bedtime story for the night before Christmas!
Any of these books (or all!) would be perfect in a book advent calendar (24 nights before Christmas), where the children open a new book every night!
