Have you ever met someone and thought to yourself, “I honestly don’t know how they keep going, and with a smile on their face!”? From the very first chapter this book will have you contemplating your own life, and the way you live it. The author, Max Davis, grew up in the same generation that I did, so this book pulled at me from the beginning. I was raised ‘in the church’ and my views of it were oh-so-very close to Mr. Davis’s. When Jesus Was A Green-Eyed Brunette, opens up our view of God, and shows us that He really is a ‘yes-God’ and not the ‘NO!-God’ that I grew up knowing.
Loving People Like God Does
Don’t let the title fool you. There are several stories through the book, that help us see how God is trying very hard to put our lives together to give us a better future. If we’ll only stop trying to add in random puzzle pieces and try to make them fit, He will give us everything we long to have. We only need to stop and be still and listen.
A lot of things about this book really reached in and grabbed me. The basis for the whole book is our relationship with God, and how we love others with it. So often, we see the Bible as a ‘book of rules’, and Jesus and God are just the authors. For years I lived with the “No! God” that I was raised believing in. Everything was ‘NO’ and Thou Shalt NOT’. It wasn’t until years later, when I was bringing my last two boys to church every Sunday, that I realized that God really isn’t a “NO! God”, He is a YES God. Max Davis shows us this in his book. If we would only love people the way God loves us; that is when we are showing the world that God is alive, without preaching or even saying a word.
When Jesus Was A Green-Eyed Brunette is a book that I think everyone should read. It shines a light on so many wonderful truths about God, and how He works through us. You can win a copy right here! Just enter on the Rafflecopter below.
